FEATURED ARTIST PROFILE

KATHY

MUNTS

Based in rural Lumby, Kathy Munts is a self-taught artist whose work is playful exploration of watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media. Embracing experimentation—whether through varied materials, textures, unique painting surfaces, or the incorporation of found objects—Kathy finds limitless possibilities for creative expression. Each new method brings a sense of discovery and excitement to her ongoing artistic journey.

Inspired by the beauty of nature,, Kathy also appreciates the freedom of letting her art evolve spontaneously—sometimes abandoning concept entirely to let each piece chart its own course. Her guiding principle is to always remain curious: learning, experimenting, and seeking the extraordinary within the ordinary.

Kathy’s art has been showcased in local juried and open exhibitions, and is held in private collections across Canada, the USA, and New Zealand. She is an active member of the Okanagan Artists of Canada Society and the Monashee Arts Council.

Artist Statement – Kathy Munts

My abstract paintings blend layers of paint, texture, and mark-making to create dynamic fusions of different media. While nature often inspires my work, each piece ultimately becomes an introspective journey, fulfilling my need for creative expression. I find excitement in experimenting with materials and techniques, letting curiosity and passion guide the process. With my art, I aim to spark conversation and invite viewers to reflect—creating a genuine connection that goes beyond the surface.

Art, for me, is more than self-expression; it’s a vital force that brings balance and meaning to my life.
