President's Message - July 2024

Updated: Dec 28, 2024

Greetings Friends,

Summer time and the living is…..easy! So far, so good with some beautiful sunny days interspersed with rain – absolutely perfect for keeping the ground damp and the threat of fires at bay.

This coming Saturday, July 6th we are holding our Annual General Meeting at the Manor House from 10-noon with guest speaker, Dom Rampone. There will be door prizes, tea/coffee and goodies! We urge all members to attend and if your membership has lapsed you can renew at the door that day. We are in desperate need of new Board Members as some of our current members are either moving away or stepping back from their role, so in order to keep the Friends moving forward we encourage you to consider joining. The time commitment is minimal as we hold monthly meetings via Zoom, and you will receive orientation and ongoing support in your role so that you can contribute effectively. We want to emphasize the importance of diversity in expertise, background and perspective which will further enrich board discussions and decision-making. Our current members are very passionate about our cause, but we need more people to keep the Board functioning as it should, so here is your opportunity to contribute your skills and expertise whatever they may be. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

As we reach the height of summer, we are excited to share with you the latest happenings at the Fintry Manor House. July is a busy month as we introduce our new Canada Summer Jobs student to the role of Museum Interpretive Guide (welcome Maritza) and welcome back Cole who was our student last summer. Together with our hard-working volunteers we will now be open more days of the week showcasing all that the Fintry Estate has to offer including morning Barn tours.

Our next exciting event is our Highland Fair to be held on Sunday, July 21st on the grounds of the Manor House. This will be a Fair like no other with modified Highland Games events such as Haggis Hurling, a Welly-Boot Toss, Wife Carrying Race, Tug-o’-War and a Shortbread competition. Of course, there will be music and bagpipes, dancing, vendors and much more. Entry forms are available on our website: Fintry.ca. Mark the date on your calendars, Sunday, July 21st from 10 a.m- 4 p.m.

Last weekend the Manor House was filled with the incredibly talented North Okanagan Artists who were showcasing their beautiful work in many different mediums. The Friends of Fintry were on hand serving Strawberry Cream Scones etc. and we all enjoyed the mesmerizing voice of Fritz playing on the veranda throughout the two-day event. It was great to see the Manor House come to life with so many people in attendance.

We are grateful for your continued support and look forward to welcoming you to Fintry soon.
