Greetings Friends,
Time marches on and here we are half way through the summer and so far, very fortunate to have no fires in our immediate vicinity. Our hearts go out to those in Jasper National Park – the losses are staggering not only for the people but also for the wildlife due to the speed and intensity of the fire…..so much devastation in such a beautiful part of the world. Fingers crossed we make it through this summer without any close fire action.
Last weekend the Friends of Fintry held their first Highland Fair with various weird and wonderful events held on the grounds of the Manor House. Although attendance was down due to the extreme heat, many hardly souls attended and a good time was had by all. Our next event is the Fintry Bat Festival to be held on Sunday, August 18th. We have several colonies of bats that make their summer homes in the attic of the Manor House as well as the Packing house so we thought we would celebrate these incredible little mammals. Along with our regular vendors there will be bat information booths and various bat themed events that day, so mark your calendars and come on down to Fintry for another fun-filled day. Vendors can register by filling out the registration form on our website www.Fintry.ca.
The Friends of Fintry held their Annual General Meeting on July 6th and we are delighted to have some new faces join the Board of Directors. We welcome Tricia Berry, our new Secretary, Carol Ferguson, as director and Cadi Middleton, as director. Our thanks go out to Don Plant who for the last several years has been our Secretary and is thankfully staying on as a Director. Also, we say goodbye and thank you to Laura Barnard, one of our directors and a Sunday tour guide, who has moved to Trail to be close to her family.
Our summer students Cole and Maritza have been a huge help giving tours of both the barn and the Manor House and our cataloguer Kelly has been instrumental in getting the Past Perfect programme up and running and inputting hundreds of items from the Manor House. Kudos to you all for the amazing work you are doing! I would be remiss if I did not mention the incredible work that our new business manager Jaimie has been doing. She is an incredible graphic artist and her work promoting this last fair and “modernizing” our website puts Fintry on a different level. Thank you Jaimie!
Stay cool everyone and we look forward to seeing you at the Fintry Bat Festival on Sunday, August 18th.

Friends of Fintry
