Greetings Friends,
As summer transitions to fall, it is hard to believe we only have another month of weekend tours until we close for the winter. September is a time of change and renewal, with kids heading back to school, the return of cozy sweaters, and a fresh burst of energy now that the heat has gone.
Our summer students, Cole, Maritza and Kelly are all returning to university to proceed with their studies and we would like to thank them for all their work this summer. With their assistance, we were able to open five days a week showcasing all that Fintry has to offer and to share the Dun-Waters’ story. Kelly was hired to catalogue the collection and she has made great strides with this monumental task. The digital inputting of each and every item in the Manor House collection is onerous and time consuming and we are so grateful that this job is well underway and can now be carried on by our staff. A big thank you also goes out to our volunteers, some new, some well seasoned, who also helped along the way, both with mentoring the students and sharing their knowledge.
On August 18th we held our first Bat Festival with representatives from the various Bat organizations from the valley, sharing their knowledge of those amazing little mammals. Attendance was less than we expected but again, the heat of the day was a problem….especially for Batman who made an appearance to the delight of the children (and some of the adults!!)
Our 2025 calendars are now available at the Manor House depicting scenes from around Fintry, with photos taken by our resident photographer, Sue Cseh. These make great gifts or just to hang on the wall as a way to remember the beauty and the history that surrounds us. Now that our students have returned to their studies we are only open weekends from 1-4pm, (until Thanksgiving) but if you would like a calendar (cost is $15) and can’t make it to Fintry, please contact us through our website www.fintry.ca or email fintryestate@gmail.com and we will arrange a mailing.
Once again, our Curator, Dan Bruce has been delving into an item of historical interest from the Manor House. This time, a few little-known facts about one of the blue and white china bowls in the collection.
I am off to Scotland on Friday to visit my family, back in early October, so I am passing the job of writing next month’s Octagon to our Business Manager, Jaimie who will keep you up to date with all the Fintry happenings as our season draws to a close.
 Happy Fall everyone!
